Al Maqbali hits hat-trick as Seeb retain Super Cup

Seeb lifted the 2023 Super Cup by defeating Al Nahdha 3-1 in a tight clash that took place at the Sohar Sports Complex on Thursday night. The triumph meant, Muscat based team won the second straight Super Cup against the same team Al Nahdha in a repeating scenario from the previous year and added another title to their kitty. The win also helped Seeb compensate their recent loss against Al Nahdha in the HM Cup in the quarterfinals.


In a thrilling cash, Seeb made a quick start to the match as Abdulaziz al Maqbali netted the opening goal in the third minute after he received a ground ball from Ali al Busaidy which the striker guided into the target. The early goal by Seeb put the opponent players under pressure as they were seeking for an equaliser.

Eleven minutes later, Al Nahdha through Ahmed al Matroushi managed to bring the match into parity. Salah al Yahyaei sent a cross into the box where Al Matroushi found the target to make it 1-1. Al Maqbali returned again and took Seeb into the lead through a strong header registering the second goal to make it 2-1 in the 29th minute.


Eight minutes later, Seeb players were dominating and Al Maqbali was the active man. He managed to score a hat-trick after he recorded the third goal for his team in the 37th minute as he put the ball to the right side net of Al Nahdha goalkeeper Ibrahim al Mukhaini.

In the deciding half, Al Nahdha players pressed hard towards returning back to the match but Seeb controlled well and broke all the scoring attempts for the opponents.


It was a crucial match for Seeb's Brazilian head coach Jorvan Vieira to finally register a title with the club after joining the team. The Brazilian coach struck success with the Super Cup after exiting from HM Cup and previously in the play-off of AFC Champions league as Seeb lost the match against Uzbekistan’s club.
