MUSCAT: The defending champions of HM Cup and Omantel league champions, Al Nahda will lock horns with former HM Cup Champions Al Seeb in the 2023 Super Cup clash on Thursday. The match will start at 6:30 pm at the Suhar Sports Complex. Al Seeb will be part of the Super Cup match after Al Suwaiq, runners up of the previous league season, hold their football activity in the club for this season.
The scenario is repeating again from the last season, as both teams met in the previous year in Salalah at Al Saada Stadium. The match was ended for Al Seeb through Marwan al Siyabi and Salah al Yahyaei goals. It was a perfect season for Muscat based team as they had clinched three titles including the HM Cup, top tier league and Super Cup. Al Nahda won the title two times in 2009 and 2014 and they will look for another triumph this season as Al Buraimi representative team producing top efforts this season.
Al Nahda progressed recently to the semis of the HM Cup Championship after stunning Al Seeb in the overall matches in the quarterfinals. The first leg match ended for Al Nahda at 2-1 on November 2, at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex, while the second leg match ended in a goalless draw at Al Buraimi Sports Complex on December 2.
At AFC Cup level, coach Hamed al Azani’s side showing very solid display as they moved to the semis of the West Zone. They are currently topping the group stage with 12 points from four victories and suffered to one defeat. Al Nahda ’s battalion featured from many top names including Harib al Saadi, Salah al Yahyaei, Abdullah Fawaz, Omar al Malki and the rest of the team’s players.
On the other side, Al Seeb players will look to retain the title and ensure their domination at Super Cup level. Al Seeb’s coaching staff headed by Jorvan Vieira will depend on Mohsin al Ghassani, Abdulaziz al Maqbali, Zaher al Aghbari and beside other stars. It is expected a tight tie among the both teams.
The head coach Al Nahda team, Hamed al Azzani, voiced confidently that his team in best shape to play the match. “ This is a final match and the winner will lift the title. Our hope will be always to win and crowned champions of the Super Cup. AS a team, we will target for a perfect show and I hope to see a continuation in the team’s technical level and physical side of the players. All the players are fit for the game expect Omar al Salti and the professional player Junior,” he ended
The Brazilian Jorvan Vieira, head coach of Al Seeb team, the team are in best situation to show top game. “ It is a tight tie and one of the crucial domestic finals. My team’s goal is to capture the title. This match will be different than all the previous games we had. I respect all the fan’s criticism but I hope to see their support for the team in the complex,” he concluded
