The inaugural forum on 'Partnership and Networking' emphasised the pivotal role of professional associations in sustainable development across diverse sectors in the Sultanate of Oman.

The forum was opened on Wednesday under the auspices of Dr Mohammed bin Said al Ma'amari, Minister of Awqaf and Religious Affairs.

The Ministry of Social Development organised the event in collaboration with various professional associations and supported by the Oman Liquefied Natural Gas Company (LNG) and be'ah.

Dr Mohammed bin Mubarak al Araimi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Omani Journalists Association, highlighted the forum's timing, which aligned with the nation's pursuit of the "Oman 2040" vision. He underscored the significance of community institutions, including professional associations, as vital links between the government and citizens, instrumental in effective community participation and international representation.

Emphasising the role of civil society associations in supporting sustainable development, Al Araimi noted their contributions to economic and social goals outlined in the "Oman 2040" vision. These include fostering cognitive and societal awareness, promoting innovation, nurturing youth, and representing Oman on regional and global platforms. Notably, the Omani Journalists Association's success in obtaining key positions in international journalism is evidence of global confidence in Omani capabilities.

The forum, attended by 250 participants, provided a platform for exchanging dialogue, sharing experiences and addressing professional associations' challenges. Eight working papers were presented, focusing on themes such as "Civil Society Organizations and Voluntary Work" and "National Achievements of Professional Associations - Successful Experiences." In the first session, Mohammed al Muqimi discussed the Ministry of Social Development's role in strengthening professional associations. Talib bin Saif al Dhubari, in his paper, highlighted the significance of civil society institutions, using the Omani Journalists Association as a model.

The second session showcased successful experiences, with Maryam al Amriyah detailing the efforts of the Omani Society for Human Resources. The paper covered empowerment services, improving human resource efficiency and adapting to labour market changes.

Additionally, the forum delved into the digital transformation of civil society institutions, with Faisal al Balushi shedding light on challenges and solutions. Engineer Mohammed bin Hashel al Riyami presented the fourth working paper on the Omani Society of Engineers, providing insights into its strategic pillars and objectives, including enhancing engineering practices, contributing to legislation, ensuring quality outputs and fostering innovation in various engineering sectors.

The forum catalysed fostering collaboration between the government and professional associations, aligning their efforts with national development goals and reaffirming the crucial role of these associations in shaping Oman's future.
