MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Korea continue to enjoy mutually-beneficial economic ties with bilateral trade reaching an impressive USD 5.6 billion in 2022.

Kim Kiejoo, Ambassador of Korea to the Sultanate of Oman, said the figure is a testament to the vibrant dynamics of the bilateral relationship.

Speaking at the National Day and Armed Forces Day reception hosted by the Korean Embassy on Monday, December 4, 2023, Ambassador Kim reaffirmed Korea’s commitment to “aligning the partnership with Oman Vision 2040 and contributing to its fulfillment.” He further expressed the intention to advance collaboration between Korea and Oman in developing green hydrogen industry and in achieving zero carbon emission by 2050.

The reception was attended by Korean community members, Omani participants represented by Dr Ali bin Amer al Shidhani, Under-Secretary for Communications and IT at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Informational Technology, as well as members of the diplomatic corps. They jointly commemorated a long-standing partnership between Korea and Oman that has grown from strength to strength since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1974.

In his address, Ambassador Kim highlighted the partnership that has steadily thrived on the basis of three robust pillars extending across the political, economic and cultural fields. He defined the strength of the partnership by underlining that "the common thread of shared commitment to peace and prosperity has prevailed throughout the last 49 years to the mutual benefit of our two countries and beyond.”

Commenting on growing cultural ties between the Korean and Omani people, Ambassador Kim expressed his willingness to further promote cultural exchanges in commemoration of the forthcoming 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2024. Educational exchanges are expected to contribute to deepening cultural ties on the basis of the Korean Scholarship Program (KSP), he added.
