Muscat: The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT) said that 16,799 of the 179,750 workers employed in the tourism sector activities are Omanis.

At the same time, 23,979 SME establishments are operating in the sector, including 4,751 under the umbrella of (Riyadah).

The tourism sector offers various benefits to employees to ensure sustainability, including a suitable work environment, and incentives for companies such as distributing a percentage of revenues to employees through the 8 percent service fee that hotel establishments and classified restaurants receive from their clients.

MHT is also implementing multiple programs in cooperation with various governmental and private sectors to increase the national workforce in the tourism sector, such as awareness programs targeting students in some educational institutions to encourage interest in working in the sector.

It is worth noting that last year, 2022, the Ministry signed a cooperation program with the Ministry of Education under the name “Oman, My Destination” to instill a culture of entrepreneurship among school students (Grade 9-12).
