MUSCAT: The Oman National chess player Hamoud al Busaidy secured the bronze medal in the First Gulf Rapid Chess Championship for Men in the 2200 category in Kuwait, while Anaa al Eissaia claimed the fifth place in the 2000 category for girls,


The championship took place at the Kuwait Mind Games Club from December 1 to 2, with participants of 112 players, including 85 male and 27 female from GCC countries including Iraq and Yemen.


The Omani national player,Hamoud al Busaidy managed to clinch the third position in the 2200 category, while Moez Dhaher from Iraq secured the first place, and Ammar al Sadrani from the UAE claimed the second position.


In the girls' 2000 category, Omani player Anaa al Eissaia secured the fifth position, while the UAE players dominated the top three spots, with Wafia al Maamari taking the first place, Anoud Issa securing the second position, and Ahoud Issa claiming the third position.


Musallam al Wadai lead the Oman's delegation to the Gulf Rapid Chess Championship for Men and Girls in Kuwait, which included 13 players: Anaa al Eissaia represented the girls' team, where the men's team included Salem al Omari, Hamoud al Busaidy, Fahim al Muqabali, Rashid al Balushi, Manal al Kathiri, Mina Beit Saeed, Hamdan al Hinaai, Saif al Hraisi, Kamal al Hinaai, Said al Maamari, Mazen al Hanthali, and Ali al Maamari.


The tournament followed the Swiss system with a rapid classic format consisting of 9 rounds, with a playing time of 10 minutes and a 3-second increment. The championship was conducted under the supervision of the International and Asian Chess Federations.
