Bassam Hamad al Jabri, the visionary behind Wave Summit Watersports and Adventures, has been making waves in Oman since 2016. As the pioneer of specialised kayaking experiences in the region, Al Jabri's company initially launched daily kayaking trips in iconic locations like Qurum beach, Bandar Khairan, and Qurum Nature Reserve.
Now, breaking new ground at Almouj Marina, Wave Summit has introduced the latest in watersports innovation by becoming the first in Oman to offer e-foil and e-surf experiences.
Electric foils (e-foils) and electric surfboards (e-surf) are revolutionising water sports. The e-foil, a hydrofoil surfboard with an electric motor, offers a controlled, smooth glide above water.
Meanwhile, the e-surfboard, a self-propelled board with an electric motor, grants surfers greater control over speed and direction, liberating them from wave dependence.
These innovations merge traditional surfing with electric propulsion, delivering thrilling experiences. With e-foils and e-surfboards, water enthusiasts can access new levels of excitement and navigation ease, propelling them into an electrifying era of aquatic adventures.
Oman's blend of natural beauty and thrilling water sports opportunities invites travelers to immerse themselves in an adventure-packed journey along the mesmerizing Arabian coastline, promising unforgettable moments and cherished memories for those seeking both excitement and serenity.
The country's coastline, adorned with an array of dive sites, appeals to both novice and experienced divers, featuring vibrant coral reefs and a rich tapestry of marine life. Consistent winds in areas like Muscat create an ideal environment for kitesurfing, while surfers revel in the varied waves along the coastal regions. Serene lagoons and bays provide perfect avenues for kayaking and paddleboarding, allowing enthusiasts to glide through clear waters while relishing stunning coastal vistas.
Reflecting on the journey, Al Jabri highlighted the company's evolution. "Four years ago, we introduced jetsurf, but the reliance on petrol engines proved challenging for the Omani market's needs. We waited until this year, conducting trials and comprehensive training in collaboration with UAE-based company eSurf UAE, to master the new electric technology."
Emphasising the motivation behind these pioneering initiatives, Al Jabri stated, "I wanted to introduce something novel and unparalleled in Oman's watersports scene, especially as numerous companies offer similar activities. Our soft opening since mid-August has presented operational challenges due to the novelty of our processes. However, the response has been promising, leading to our official opening slated for October 2023."
Acknowledging the hurdles faced, Al Jabri elaborated, "We are navigating challenges related to sports registration within government sectors, safeguarding the boards against potential damages, and communicating the premium nature of these watersports. While the price may seem steep, it mirrors the value and care required for operating these boards. We are also actively dispelling misconceptions, assuring customers that learning e-foiling or e-surfing requires no prior experience."
Customers eager for a premium watersports adventure can expect the pinnacle of technological innovation at Wave Summit. Al Jabri affirmed, "Our offerings provide unique experiences yet to be found elsewhere in Oman, boosting confidence and dispelling water-related fears."
To ensure safety and proficiency, Wave Summit invests in thorough training. "New riders receive comprehensive briefings on onboard usage and safety protocols. Our dedicated instructors and assistants guide them through tailored training packages involving daily tasks and exercises," Al Jabri added.
Highlighting the environmental advantages of electric Watersports, Al Jabri likened their impact to the rise of electric cars. "These innovations are game-changers due to their eco-friendly nature, minimal pollution, reduced noise, enhanced efficiency, and overall user-friendliness. Participants can now revel in nature without the distractions of engine noises and fume smells."
Looking ahead, Al Jabri envisions expanding the sport's reach across Oman. "Our goal is to introduce these experiences to various locations, allowing both locals and tourists to embrace the thrill of watersports while discovering Oman's stunning natural landscapes."
For Al Jabri and his team, Oman offers an exceptional e-surfing and e-foiling experience due to its pristine beaches, crystal-clear waters, and consistent wind conditions. The combination of breathtaking scenery, reliable wind patterns, and a serene atmosphere makes Oman an enticing destination for those seeking thrilling and unforgettable water sports escapades.
