Celebrating 15 years of intertwining the rich flavours of Germany with the culinary landscape of Oman, Shalashil Bakery stands as a testament to the multi-cultural collaborative efforts between Omani and German influences.

For many, the bakery has been a culinary haven for both the local Omani community and the German expatriates residing in the country.

Pioneered by the late Hanz-Uwe Muellers, whose dedication to tantalising Omani taste buds dates back to 1976, Shalashil Bakery has seamlessly transitioned through the years. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, the legacy continues under the stewardship of Sarah, the present heir, who effortlessly channels a profound appreciation for both Omani and German gastronomy.

Rahma al Jamali, the current owner and widow of Hanz, expresses gratitude amid the festive atmosphere surrounding the bakery's 15th anniversary. "We are delighted to celebrate 15 years of sweetly catering to Omanis, Germans, and other residents. Our legacy is not just about running a bakery; it's about introducing the authentic Deutsche tastes to Oman," she shares.

The journey of Shalashil Bakery began when Hanz-Uwe Mueller, a German baker captivated by the warmth and friendliness of Omanis, decided to establish Intercon Bakery in 1976. This venture was followed by the inception of Oman Modern Bakery and subsequent additions such as Al Bustan Bakery in the 80s and Meena Bakery in the mid-90s.

After a sojourn back to Germany, both Hanz and Rahma felt the pull to return to Muscat and pursue their sweet mission in 2008. Driven by an unwavering passion for pastries, they opened the German bakery named Shalashil in Qurum. Presently, with a presence in three locations across Oman, the bakery caters to the diverse palates of Omanis and Germans, as well as a clientele that spans continents.

Shalashil Bakery's appeal lies in its introduction of a diverse range of German pastries and foods, including finger foods, cakes, cheesecakes, sausages, dark bread like rye bread, protein bread, sourdough, bretzel, baguette bread, and bread rolls (Broetchen). The bakery continues to infuse its offerings with a distinctive German touch, evident in recent additions such as Christstollen, the traditional German Christmas cake, German Cheesecake, and various other German bread varieties.

As Shalashil Bakery marks this significant milestone, it celebrates not only its success but also the enduring bond between Oman and Germany forged through the universal language of culinary delight.

Adding their German touch constantly, the bakery recently brought Christstollen the German Christmas cake and German Cheesecake and other varieties of german bread.
