Revitalising governorates: A vision for progress and prosperity in Oman

In line with the dynamic progress and commitment to decentralisation, the Sultanate of Oman is dedicated to promoting and ensuring equitable opportunities for the development of its governorates.


This is in reference His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik's recommendation in Royal Decree (63/2022) according to the importance of working towards achieving the goals and pillars of Oman Vision 2040, including the sustainable development of the governorates.


Moreover, this will help create an attractive environment for investments, developing its resources, and improving local and national services and activities.


Accordingly, the governorates are witnessing clear revitalisation of various events and festivals that works to relief and enhance vital aspect via attracting visitors, tourists and investors.

For instance, the tourism, film, festivals and exhibitions which in addition provides job opportunities by creating meetings point between business owners and Job seekers.


From the other hand, these activities constitute an indicator of tourism movement, thus developing tourist facilities, public facilities, and road networks.


The festivals organised by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism in some governorates constitute a step to enhance domestic tourism and enrich them with multiple activities and events that would achieve many goals that combine the definition of the ancient historical heritage. Along with it its legacies, customs and traditions, with recreational activities and entertainment for the emerging generations. These include the Empty Quarter Festival, Sur Marine Festival, Grape Festival, and entertainment festivals such as the Al Dakhiliyah Festival and the Sohar State Festival.

Diversification of activities


It's worth to mention that achieving decentralisation in the governorates is based on the unified roles of all ministries, and private sector institutions.


The Ministry of Information has recently worked to provide training opportunities for provincial correspondents and hold forums to discuss developments in the media based in various governorates.

Abdullah Al Harrasi, Minister of Information, also confirmed that the media in the governorates is one of the basic elements in the work system in Oman. He was also of the view that media content from various governorates across various media platforms and channels works to empower the governorates through effective communication and media participation.


It is also considered a bridge that connects the efforts of the governorates with members of the society. Also highlighting the role of radio, lies in bringing communities together and promoting positive dialogue for change and confronting challenges.
