Muscat: Royal Oman Police (ROP) has confirmed that citizens can now edit their personal information and photos in their passports.

ROP said that individuals can edit information based on the data recorded in the civil registry when obtaining or renewing a passport.

Requests can be made to relevant authorities regarding how data should be presented, including options like first name/ father’s name or grandfather’s name/surname, first name/surname, First name/father’s name, or First name/grandfather’s name.

The civil registry database will remain unchanged, modified only according to the previously established system.

This means that the name in the civil registry will not change if there is a change in the name on the passport, unlike the previous practice where issuing a passport required using the full name and tribe.

Regarding personal photos, ROP mentioned that it was previously mandatory to include personal photos from the age of 15 and above, with the requirement of wearing Omani Musar (turban).

However, citizens now have the option to choose between wearing the official Omani outfit or a general outfit like a shirt.

Currently, this service is available in some service centers in the governorate of Muscat, with plans to extend it to other areas after completing the technical aspects.

The fees for this service are RO5 for those under the age of 18 and RO10 for those aged 18 and above.

ROP emphasized that this service is not mandatory but optional, according to the individual's preference when obtaining or renewing a passport."
