The State Council begins its eighth term (2023-2027) with its first session today for its first regular session, by taking of the oath of the members and electing the two vice-presidents of the Council.


The first session will include a number of topics, the most important of which is the members’ taking of the oath, in accordance with what is stipulated in Article (25) of the Council of Oman Law.


In the session, the Council will also elect two vice-presidents of the Council from among the members wishing to run for the two positions in accordance with Article (9) of the Council of Oman Law.


The first session will also include the election of members of the Council’s office, and nominations for membership in the permanent committees.


khalid bin Ahmed al Saidi, Secretary-General of the State Council, confirmed that the Council appreciates the attention given by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to the process of legislative work within the framework of the state of institutions and law.


He added that members of the State Council will exercise their role in following up on national issues and achieving what citizens aspire to through a new phase of legislative work in accordance with the competencies stipulated in the Basic Law of the State.


The State Council is one of the two parts of the Council of Oman, with its composition and the national competencies and experiences it includes, and those with academic qualifications, potentials and abilities in various fields, who have practiced cultural, academic, social, economic, military, security and legislative work, in confirmation of His Majesty the Sultan’s keenness to build national capabilities that possess competence, integrity and responsibility to keep pace with the requirements of building Oman’s future.
