MUSCAT: The Oman Racket Sports Committee (ORSC), in coordination with Badminton World Federation (BWF) and Badminton Asia, organised series of 'Shuttle Time' events and activities including Shuttle Time for teachers, Shuttle Time for lecturers and Shuttle Time for schools.

'Shuttle Time' is an international programme launched by BWF in 2012. According to BWF, it offers school teachers access to free resources, training and equipment, which support the teaching of enjoyable, safe and inclusive badminton activities to children aged 5-15 years old.

Shuttle Time lessons are designed to provide children with a positive image of badminton through many opportunities to have fun, engage with others and experience success. Schools badminton programme supports the principle that children should lead a healthy and active life, both in and out of school. BWF’s goal is to make badminton one of the world’s most popular and accessible school sports. The programme is currently being implemented in more than 140 countries in partnership with BWF’s Continental Confederations and Member Associations.

The first main event for Shuttle Time run by ORSC was Shuttle Time for teachers. More than 20 teachers representing different schools around the Sultanate of Oman took part in the three-day course which was delivered by Sambenthan Sivaperumal, Senior Development Manager at Badminton Asia. The participants learned various proper approaches on coaching the junior players besides learning different theoretical and technical theories and enhancing teachers experience on some main fundamentals of badminton.

Amna al Ajmi, one of the participants, affirmed that she obtained the desired experience in coaching badminton. “I will try to transfer the learned knowledge in this course to my colleagues in the school and then to the students. We are working closely with Al Suwaiq club to organise a tournament for badminton in the club and gather the school students. The planned date is during the summer holidays," she said.
