17 lives lost in vehicle-camel collisions in 2022

Muscat: Seventeen persons lost their lives in 57 accidents after collisions with stray camels in 2022, up 39 percent from the previous year.


According to the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), 58 persons were injured seriously in these accidents.


Nearly 20 of these accidents took place in the Dhofar Governorate.

Eleven people were killed and 45 others injured in a number of vehicle collisions with stray camels in 2021 as per NCSI figures.


A fine of RO20 is imposed on the owner of any stray or neglected animal upon discovery by the competent municipality.


The Ministry of Interior decision No.164/2021 said that stray or neglected animals include camels, horses, cows, goats, sheep, and any animal left by its owner or guardian to go wherever it wants without supervision.
