

Frankfurt: Industrial production in Germany fell by 1.4per cent inSeptember compared to the previous month, the fourth monthly declinein a row, according to government figures released on Tuesday.
The decline was steeper than analysts had expected. The averageforecast anticipated only a 0.1per cent decline in September, according tothe report from Germany's Federal Statistical Office.
In the third quarter as a whole, industrial production fell by 2.1per centcompared to the previous quarter, the agency said.
"The downward trend that has been ongoing since the summer iscontinuing," the German Economy Ministry said in a statement on thefigures.
However, more stable incoming orders and sentiment indicators pointedto a bottoming out in the third quarter and the possibility of arecovery at the turn of the year.
The decline was felt across the board.
With the exception of the construction industry, which stagnated, allsectors recorded declines. The production of industrial goods as wellas energy production both fell by 1.7per cent.__DPA
