MUSCAT: Oman Post, part of Asyad Group, has launched an automatic sorting system for postal parcels. This has contributed to a 43 percent increase in operational efficiency for postal services and solutions by the end of August 2023, compared to the same period in 2022.

The launch of the automated sorting system for postal parcels reflects Oman Post’s strategy of employing the latest technological solutions to increase the speed of processing postal materials, improve productivity, and enhance the efficiency of parcel delivery to customers.

The system, considered the most advanced in the Sultanate of Oman in this field, utilizes artificial intelligence techniques and data-based solutions to automate the sorting process. It has a capacity of approximately 6,000 postal parcels per hour, distributed across up to 12 paths. It can sort shipments of different weights, up to 20 kilograms per shipment, with a size of up to 40 centimeters in height and 50 centimeters in width per shipment. Additionally, it records the weight of the shipment and optically reads the data related to it, comparing it with the international postal tracking system and the delivery management system to verify the validity of the recorded data. It also provides postal parcel tracking technology to facilitate direct customer tracking of their postal shipments.

Sheikh Ibrahim bin Sultan al Hosni, Acting CEO of Oman Post and Asyad Express, stated that Oman Post is committed to staying up-to-date with the latest technological developments by employing digital system solutions that meet customer aspirations, providing high-quality services that adhere to international best practices. He noted that the automated parcel sorting device for the Postal Service was developed in cooperation with international companies "BlueCrest" and Emerdis. This collaboration will enable Oman Post to make a qualitative shift in the mechanism for processing postal parcels, increase operational efficiency, reduce potential errors, streamline operational work, provide a distinguished level of service to customers, and reduce operational costs for the company.

Rohan Mathur, Director of Emerdis Company Limited, expressed his satisfaction with this strategic cooperation and the successful delivery of the first automated sorting system equipped with scanning technology in the Sultanate of Oman. He explained that this investment will pave the way for Oman Post to attract additional quantities of postal parcels, expand the capabilities of available services, maintain the quality of operational processes, and provide advanced analytical data.
