MUSCAT: The Social Protection Fund organised a seminar on Thursday on employers’ rights and obligations under the Social Protection Law.


The seminar was aimed at highlighting the responsibilities of employers in terms of registration and payment of their respective employees’ subscriptions. It also underlined the employers’ duty to advise their employees about their insurance prerogatives.


The seminar saw the participation of government personnel representing departments of human resources, finance and information technology.

The seminar focused on the Social Protection Law, the benefits it generates, insurance programmes and related procedures. It touched on various types of compensation related to work injuries and occupational diseases and the nature of occupational disability.


The seminar also elaborated on insurance programmes provided by the Social Protection Law, including days-off (leaves) supported by the law, the maternity leave, sick leave and regular leave.


The discussions covered branches of social insurance like insurance for the elderly, disability insurance and death insurance, as well as related conditions and procedures cited in the law.


The participants studied examples of cases of termination of service, along with the rights obtained under the Social Protection Law. - ONA
