Ominvest Group to organise football tourney for public sector

MUSCAT: Oman International Development and Investment Company (Ominvest) will organise a football tournament for the public sector from November 5 to 15.


The Ominvest football tournament is being organised as part of the 53rd National Day’s celebrations, and as a part of its belief in the importance of sport in the community development, economic growth, and in maintaining health and fitness.


A number of ministries and government entities will take part in the tournament.


In a statement, Waleed al Yarubi, Chief Risk, Strategy and Governance Officer, said: “The interest in sports and physical activities is considered an essential base for the development of societies and enhancing the performance of workers in various units of the state’s administrative apparatus and the private sector companies as well.“


“The Ominvest Football Championship reflects the group’s vision for developing societies and improving their performance, while the tournament contributes to enhance communication between its participants from various government entities, as it comes in line with the values of the Ominvest Group in strengthening the culture of joint work and cooperation between the public sector and private sector for the advancement of society,” Waleed al Yarubi added.


Ten teams will participate in the tournament, divided into two groups, which are: Muscat Group and Sohar Group.


Muscat Group includes, the Environment Authority team, Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs team, Khawla Hospital, Muscat Municipality and the team of Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones.


Sohar Group includes Al Nahda Hospital team, Ministry of Energy and Minerals team, the Cardiac Medicine and Surgery Centre, the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates ‘Madayn’ and the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism team.


The tournament will be held on base of group system, where the first and second of each group will qualify for the final match, which will be held on November 15.


Ominvest is one of the largest listed investment companies in the region.
