MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs, on Thursday chaired the 25th meeting of the Standing Committee of GCC Legislation Departments.

Dr Yahya bin Nasser al Khusaibi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs, Chairman of the meeting, said that an Omani proposal made in 2010 resulted in the establishment of the GCC standing committee for officials of legislative departments.

Al Khusaibi added that the committee sought to unify GCC legislations and consolidating bonds of cooperation among legislative departments in GCC states.

The meeting discussed the action plan of the above mentioned GCC standing committee, its visions and programme of visits to GCC legislative departments over the next two years 2024 – 2025.

The meeting studied the outcome of meetings of a committee of experts from GCC legislative departments. It took note of experts’ views on amending a draft law on expanding insurance cover for GCC citizens working in member states other than their own.

It also looked into a unified law for regulating the activity of private GCC companies and establishments operating in the field of express mail, in addition to a draft unified meteorology law for GCC states.

The meeting also considered the unification of legislative terminology in GCC states. - ONA
