MUSCAT: The Oman under-15 football team recently concluded a five-day domestic camp in Muscat on a successful note. The internal warm-up gathering featured two friendly matches against Kuwait. The Oman junior team won both of them with a 3-0 score in the opening fixture and 2-0 in the second match.

The head coach of Oman U-15 team, Anwar al Habsi, affirmed to Oman Daily Observer that forming a strong team is the top target. “Our focus currently is to form a strong national team comprising talented players. Also, building up the technical level of the players and assist them to become a professional footballer in the near future is the top target. From the previous camps, we worked hard to shape the readiness of these players for the forthcoming events including the Arab School Football Championship and West Asian Football Championship,” he added.

Coach Anwar added in his remarks that the upcoming gathering for the team will take place on November 7. “The final domestic camp ahead of travelling to Cairo city in Egypt will be during November 7 to 11. The negotiations are going on with some Gulf teams to arrange some friendly games and we are looking for the final confirmation. The team will travel to Egypt after the completion of the internal camp ,” he said.

Commenting on the team’s chances at the Arab School Football Championship, he said: "I believe focusing on developing the junior players and taking the utmost technical output from the Arab event should be the main targets. The competition for this category of the players should come later as the top priority is to shape and qualify the junior players to become stronger football players in the future. I am confident on my players and we hope to see positive results in our coming assignments,” he concluded.

The newly ended internal camp was part of the team’s preparation for the Arab School Football Championship which will be held in Egypt during November 17 to 27 and then the coming assignment in the Under-15 West Asian Football Championship in Khasab, Musandam Governorate, during December 1 to 10. The West Asian event for the junior players will see attendance of eight confirmed teams namely Jordan, UAE, Syria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Yemen and hosts Sultanate of Oman.

All the participating teams will take part in this event with players born in 2008. The rules and regulations of the tournament will be announced soon according to the announcement of the WAFF in their official pages in the social media platforms. The existing Oman squad featured more than 33 players ahead of Arab School Football Championship.
