The Ministry of Interior has unveiled the digitally smart electoral equipment to a visiting European Union delegation of European Press Union during a review of the system. The elections of Majlis Ash'shura representatives will take place on October 29.

During the visit to the Ministry of Interior, a team of specialists from the ministry delivered a presentation on the digitalisation of the electoral process. The presentation covered various stages of the electoral cycle, demonstrating how technology has been harnessed to enhance the overall experience for both voters and candidates.

The ministry has introduced an efficient registration service within the electoral registry. This system streamlines the process of registering and transferring voters.

Candidates have access to a dedicated platform, the "My Page" service, where they can manage their personal accounts, engage in electoral propaganda, and communicate with their constituents through the dialogue arena.

Oman's electoral system now boasts new AI features for analysing voting trends and predicting voter percentages, offering valuable insights to both election organisers and candidates.

ELECTRONIC VOTING

The "Intakhab" application has revolutionised the electoral landscape by providing a user-friendly platform for electronic voting. This application, available for iOS, Android, and Huawei smartphones, simplifies the voting process and leverages artificial intelligence for improved accuracy.

The digital voting system has been designed with security in mind, ensuring the confidentiality of votes. To use the application, voters need a smartphone with NFC capability, an internet connection, a valid ID card, and registration in the electoral roll.

As of the latest statistics available from the end of July to September 30, the election application has witnessed substantial engagement, indicating the success of this digital transformation.

Approximately 753,952 voters have registered on the application. There are 739 candidates participating in the upcoming elections. The application has been downloaded an impressive 173,549 times. Users have given the application a total of 106,068 ratings for its various services. A remarkable 6,046 proposals have been submitted through the application. The dialogue arena has featured 18 prominent topics, fostering community engagement.

Users have posted 2,846 messages through visual hubs. Candidates have shared approximately 3,148 posts, with 10,230 interactions from application users.

Walid al Sulaimi, a Senior Media Specialist from the Ministry of Interior, aptly summarised this transformation by noting, "The Intakhab application represents a qualitative leap in the election mechanism, aligning Oman's electoral process with the latest technological developments in the world. It is a testament to our commitment to embracing technology to enhance the electoral experience for all citizens."
