Oman hosts delegation from Korean semiconductor giant SK Hynix

MUSCAT: A high-level delegation representing South Korean semiconductor giant SK Hynix arrived here on Thursday, October 19, 2023, to explore investment opportunities in the Sultanate of Oman.


The one-day visit was in response to Oman's efforts to attract international players in the semiconductor industry, which the Omani government sees as a key driver of economic growth and diversification. The delegation also included executives from SK Hynix's supply chain and operations subsidiaries.


SK Hynix is one of the world's largest semiconductor companies, and any investment in Oman would be a major boost to the country's economy. It would also help to create jobs and attract other foreign investment to Oman.


In remarks, SK Hynix CEO Kwak Noh-Jung said the company is looking forward to further prospects for bilateral collaboration with Oman in cultivating semiconductor expertise in both nations.


"We have witnessed the Omani government's keen interest in the high-tech sector," Kwak said. "SK Hynix is committed to working with Oman to develop a strong semiconductor industry that will benefit both countries."


Korean Ambassador to Oman Kiejoo Kim also expressed his satisfaction over the growing economic collaboration between Korea and Oman. He underlined the importance of the visit by GS and SK Group to Oman, highlighting the potential for strengthening mutual collaboration and fostering partnership.


Oman is well-positioned to attract foreign investment in the semiconductor industry. The country has a stable political environment, a skilled workforce, and a strategic location at the crossroads of trade routes between Europe, Asia, and Africa.
