MUSCAT: Omani voters based abroad will start casting their ballots to elect members of the 10th term of Majlis Ash’shura via Intakhib application next Sunday. Voters inside the Sultanate of Oman will cast their ballots on Sunday October 29, the Ministry of Interior said on Wednesday.

A total of 753,690 registered voters are eligible to exercise their franchise to elect their favourite candidates for the 10th term of Majlis Ash’shura through Intikhab application or on the election website elections.om.

The Ministry of Interior seeks to introduce the latest technologies to save voters’ time and effort through the Intikhab application which only requires a smartphone equipped with the Near Field Communication (NFC) feature, an internet connection, a valid ID card beside that the voter must be registered in the electoral register. The voting application is equipped with the highest security and secrecy standards.

The Ministry of Interior affirmed its full readiness for the administrative, technical, legal and media aspects related to the elections. Plans and working mechanisms have been laid down in coordination and integration with the relevant authorities. A number of improvements and updates have been introduced to the various programmes, methods and applications related to the election process.

The Ministry of Interior sent awareness messages to citizens on the importance of participating in the electoral process. It said that the procedures have been simplified after the provision of 12 electronic electoral services that include a number of electoral services such as the availability of the initial and final candidate lists, the availability of the initial and final voter lists, checking registration at the electoral register, and following up the automated counting of votes. The application also provides numerical statistics showing the percentage of voting in each wilayat and other e-services. — ONA
