Oman Met issues thunderstorm alert

Muscat: The Oman Met Office issued a thunderstorm alert on Sunday and they stated that the affected areas are the mountainous areas of south al Batinah, North al Batinah,


Al Dhahirah, Al Dakhiliyah, Al Buraimi, and North al Sharqiyah governorates.


The rains are expected to be between 1 pm and 8 PM on Sunday.


According to the weather forecast, rainfall is expected to range between 15 to 30 mm. The downdraft wind is also to have its impact and the office has issued an alert on poor horizontal visibility due to the dust rising during the thundershowers.


They have also warned also flash floods. Just before mid-day cumulus cloud began to form in parts of the Hajar Mountains and the mask and the Met Office said there are chances for expansion.


Areas likely to be affected by active downward winds (may reach higher than 25 knots - may cause reduced horizontal visibility and rising dust and dust) are concentrated on parts of the mountainous areas of the North and South Al Batinah and Al Dhahirah governorates, based on the Omani numerical model.
