Research Open Day concludes at Muscat College

MUSCAT: Muscat College hosted Research Open Day under the auspices of Dr Ali bin Amer al Shidhani, Under-Secretary for Communications and Information Technology at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology. Esteemed guests graced the event, including government delegates, educators, industry professionals, college students and staff.


The central objective of Muscat College's Research Open Day was to showcase the institution's impressive research achievements and ongoing efforts, emphasising its unwavering commitment to research and innovation. This gathering served as a platform for networking, collaboration and exchanging knowledge among diverse participants. The event also honed the research excellence demonstrated by the faculty and students.


Dr Khalfan al Masruri, Dean of Muscat College, shared insight into the college's research focus, particularly in computer science, business and accounting. He highlighted that Muscat College takes a proactive approach to addressing real-time challenges, encouraging students and staff to collaborate on projects that offer practical solutions. The college also actively promotes partnerships with educators from other institutions and industry professionals.


"Both students and staff actively identify real-time challenges and work collaboratively to research and develop practical solutions to these issues. The college also encourages and facilitates collaborative projects with educators from other institutions and professionals from various industries," he said.


Reshmy Krishnan, Head of the Research Centre, shared Muscat College's research achievements and highlighted the institution's strategic focus on prioritising research and innovation. She stressed the Research Centre's role in encouraging both staff and students to engage in projects that benefit the community. During her presentation, she highlighted that Muscat College has achieved the third position among private Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Oman for Scopus Indexed publications, thanks to the successful implementation of their best practices.


Prof Abdullah al Badi from Sultan Qaboos University delivered a presentation titled 'Exploring the Horizon: Unveiling Oman's Path to Research and Innovation Advancement'.


Tomy Bosco, Business Area Director at Nortel, provided insights into Research Opportunities and Facilities in Higher Education in Oman. Dr Ahmed Nawaz Hakro, Associate Dean of Research and Innovation, shared best practices adopted by Middle East College in the research and innovation domain.


The event culminated with an award ceremony. Notable accolades included the presentation of the Annual Researcher Award for 2022, with Dr Stephen Aro Gordon representing the Business and Accountancy Department and Dr Ferddie Quiroz from the Computing Department as recipients.


Furthermore, awards and incentives for students' research achievements were also distributed, acknowledging and encouraging their valuable contributions to the academic and research community.


The event concluded with a vote of thanks, delivered by Dr Mathew Philip, Assistant Dean, Academic, expressing gratitude to all participants and underscoring the importance of continued dedication to research and innovation in the academic landscape.
