The International Basketball Federation has recently announced its roster of international referees for the term 2023-2025. Among the distinguished names is Wafaa bint Saeed al Simriyah from Oman, who has earned an international badge as a basketball court referee. This historic achievement marks her as the first Omani female referee to be granted this honour.
Wafaa al Simri's inclusion in the list follows her successful completion of rigorous physical and written examinations required for international referee accreditation. The roster also features eminent Asian referees from the Sultanate of Oman, including Ahmed al Balushi, Issam al Siyabi, Rashid al Mashifri and Fares al Khalasi in the capacity of an international observer.
It's worth mentioning that Wafaa al Simri embarked on her refereeing journey in 2019, leveraging her background as a former basketball player. Over the years, she actively contributed to the administration of local competitions and engaged in numerous domestic and international training camps.
