MUSCAT: A beginner course for tennis coaches organised by the Oman Tennis Association (OTA) in cooperation International Tennis Federation (ITF) began on Tuesday. The course will continue till October 14 with the participation of nine coaches from clubs affiliated with the OTA.


The course, which is the second organised by the OTA, will be held under the supervision of international lecturer Siddiq al Hashimi, assisted by Angela Malekiwa from Serbia. The course will witness the presentation of a group of theoretical and practical lectures during the course days.


The course includes theoretical and practical aspects in a number of important topics, including an introduction to the sport of tennis, its laws, the size of the courts and tools, in addition to how to work with novice players under 10 years of age, knowledge of the basic techniques of the game of tennis, the mechanism for organising simplified competitions, and how to use the correct equipment according to size and age.


The list of participants in this session includes Abdullah al Kathiri and Haitham al Maashani from Al Nasr Club, Salim al Badi from Majees Club, Mohammed al Balushi from Al Musannah Club, Eid al Mashali from Al Ittihad Club, Abdullah Salim from Salalah Club, Jarrar Antar and Abdulrahim al Balushi from Al Ahli Sidab Club.


Participants and those who pass this course will receive a certificate accredited by the International Tennis Federation, as the ITF has given its counterpart, the Oman Tennis Association, and through lecturer Siddiq al Hashimi, direct powers to approve such training certificates.
