

MUSCAT: The Oman Racket Sports Committee (ORSC) launched their official activities through marking Oman Day of Physical Activity, which was organised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, on Monday at Al Sahwa Parks. ORSC took part in the event through an introductory corner that showed all the events and activities of the ORSC. Furthermore, the committee arranged an open area for exercising Air Badminton.
Dr Hilal bin Ali al Sabti Minister of Health and top dignitaries of the event were briefed on the ORSC plans and the forthcoming events besides the importance of Air Badminton and its advantages on a healthy body.
ORSC focused on presenting Air Badminton during the event as it is one of the sport supported by Badminton World Federation (BWF). According to BWF, Air Badminton is an ambitious new development project designed to create opportunities for people of all ages and ability to play badminton on hard, grass and sand surfaces in parks, gardens, streets, playgrounds and beaches around the world.
Khalid bin Ali al Sulaimani, member of ORSC, said that taking part in the Oman Day of Physical Activity is a vital opportunity to show the activities of racket sports which fit for all the community categories. “Racket sports supports to raise the physical activity level and the health of a person. The ORSC will work hard towards providing different range of activities that are mixed of competitive events for the professionals and fun activities to assist people’s developing their physical activity and health care,” he said.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth had announced the formation of Oman Racket Sports Committee in July. The committee is headed by Dr Abdulrahim al Daroushi as chairman while Tahir al Barwani is Secretary-General. The committee members are: Khalid al Sulaimani, Ruqaya al Omairi and Amal al Mahrouqi. The committee will be responsible for badminton and squash sports in the Sultanate of Oman and work in accordance to the set international and regional standards, rules and regulations by the international and Asian federations.
