National coach programme to conclude today

MUSCAT, Sept 27


The first level of the National Coach Certification Programme (NCCP) will conclude on Thursday at the headquarters of Oman Olympic Academy (OOA). The NCCP programme, organised by Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) represented by OOA, began on Sunday with participation of 28 national coaches representing different sporting associations, committees, clubs, universities and sports military sections.


The certified trainer in sports training and approved lecturer by FIVB Dr Shihab al Riyami delivered the programme during the previous days and he is appointed as the director of the NCCP programme. The purpose of this initiative is to develop and enhance the capabilities of the domestics sports coaches in different group and single sports. This programme acts as a crucial step towards building a qualified training base in the field of sports training. Moreover, the programme is set to develop the technical skills of the participated coaches and provide them with a positive impact in enhancing the performance of athletes in Oman and raising their technical levels. The training course is designed to deliver all the participants with the valuable opportunity to gain their knowledge and experience.


The OOC aimed from this typical course to provide an extended support to the national coaches and equip them with the desired technical abilities to graduate as qualified coaches in their discipline. The sports training programme is under a global framework including the international standards of the sports sciences.


Commenting on the NCCP programme, Dr Shihab al Riyami said this is a unique training programme with a top target based on qualifying the national coaches with the standard training skills. “This is one of the top training initiatives in the Sultanate of Oman and will make a giant leap in shaping the national sporting coaches. The references of this course are from Canada, USA and Australia. With the completion of the level one, the participants will get 30 points and will complete 40 training hours. This should be followed with attending a training seminar which will be for 15 hours and equal to 10 points. Later, the coach can progress to the second level of the programme taking into consideration that the participant need to be active in the training field with supporting letter from his association and committee,” he said.


Dr Shihab affirmed that the course played an effective role in preparing top national coaches. “We are looking forward to see more Omani coaches in the training field equipped with the desired technical knowledge and experience. The participants in the course will learn after the course the physiology of sports training which help them to understand how physical exercise affects the body and how to exploit this knowledge in designing advanced training programmes. Moreover, the coaches will get to know the psychology of athletes and how to deal with them effectively to achieve maximum athletic performance. Also, executing a proper planning in sports training that contribute to developing the performance of athletes, how to prevent sports injuries and how to deal with them, in addition to pedagogy for coaches. The coach’s duties are to develop the athletes’ skills and contribute to achieving their sporting goals,” he ended.
