MUSCAT: The Oman Tennis Association (OTA) is organising the first monthly tournament for the current year, which is scheduled to be held on the tennis courts of the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher from September 30 to October 3. Male and female players from the national teams and the players from the communities residing in Sultanate of Oman who have registered with the Oman Tennis Association will participate in the tournament.

By holding this tournament, the OTA seeks to activate the game’s activity among the various age levels of game players, as the tournament’s competitions are held for ages from 8 to 18 years.

The tournament will see mini-tennis competitions, which the OTA launched some time ago with the aim of encouraging the talents in cadet category. The OTA is working with the clubs to promote the grass roots level players.

The current year witnesses the holding of four competitions in the Junior League for monthly tournaments, which will continue until the end of the year.

Siddiq al Hashemi, a technical expert at the OTA, said that the return of the monthly tournaments comes from the OTA's keenness to promote the game among the age group players.

"The young children will get good opportunity during the tournaments to brush up their skills. This will produce junior players who are technically efficient, whether for the national team or for the community players."

He added that the tournament will also witness the holding of mini-tennis competitions, which the OTA is counting on greatly to expand the base of the game. "We hope that everyone will benefit from this participation, which is expected to include a large group of players of different ages," Al Hashemi said.
