MUSCAT,: Oman beach volleyball teams ‘A’ and ‘B’ ended their campaign in the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, after suffering defeats in the last 16 round on Sunday.


At Ningbo Banbianshan Beach Volleyball Centre Court 2, Oman team comprising Nouh al Jalbubi and Mazin al Hashmi received a 2-0 loss against Kazakhstan pair of Dmitriy Yakovlev and Sergey Bogatu.


The first set finished at 21-16 after Oman’s duo delivered their best performance but the experience of the opponents ended the set with five points’ gap. In the following set, Oman’s duo worked hard to revert back to the match but the rivals managed to strengthen their domination and clinched the match by 21-17.


In another match, the Omani pair of Haitham al Sheraiqi and Ahmed al Hosni suffered a 2-0 defeat against the Qatari duo of Cherif Samba and Ahmed Janko. The Qatari spikers presented a solid performance during the both sets as they won the opening set 21-13 and claimed the second set 21-11.



In the swimming competitions, Oman’s Issa al Adawi, ended his participation in the men's 100m freestyle in eighth place with a timing of 53.53s in the preliminary qualification at heat four on Sunday at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Aquatic Sports Arena.


Abdulrahman al Kulaibi took part in the men's 200m freestyle to finish seventh (2:16.65) in the preliminary qualification at heat two. Both swimmers did not secure a slot to the finals.


CLOSE DEFEAT


The Oman hockey team began their opening match with a fighting 3-2 loss against hosts China at Gongshu Canal Sports Park Stadium on Sunday for the preliminary round for Pool B.


Oman scored twice through Ahmed al Noufali (20th minute - penalty) and Fahad al Lawati (52nd minute).


China found the target through Jeisheng Gao (33rd), Changliang Lin (44th – penalty) and Jeisheng Gao (54th minute).


Oman will meet Malaysia on Tuesday and take on Thailand on Thursday. They will conclude the group matches against Indonesia on September 30.
