Oman remain 73rd in Fifa ranking for September

Oman remained in the 73rd place in the Fifa world rankings in the latest list of September which was released on Thursday. The Red Warriors were positioned ninth in Asian continent with 1,334 points. Oman’s monthly ranking position stayed unchanged after the international break as the team gained two points from Palestine friendly match which the Red Warriors won 2-1 in Muscat on September 6 while they suffered a 4-0 loss against USA on September 13 in Minnesota, USA.


The national team will take a break in October as the squad will join their respective domestic clubs in the top-tier league. The Red Warriors will return to action in November as then the Sultanate of Oman team will compete at the joint qualification of the Asian Qualifiers for the Fifa World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027. Oman will face Kyrgyz Republic, Malaysia, Chinese Taipei/Timor Leste in Group D of the joint qualifiers. The Red Warriors will launch their challenge at the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 finals in January 2024 in Group F which comprised Asian favourites Saudi Arabia, Thailand and Kyrgyzstan.


At the global level, Argentina strengthened their lead at the top spot of the Fifa World Ranking after their crucial 1-0 victory over Ecuador on September 8 and followed by another 3-0 win against Bolivia in the opening match of Conmebol Fifa World Cup 2026 qualifiers on September 13.


Despite their defeat to Germany recently, France retained second place and Brazil came third place while England were positioned fourth.


In Asia, Japan were the best Asian team at 19th place. Iran followed Japan in the 21st spot while South Korea were 27th. Australia came in fourth position at 27th spot while Saudi Arabia went down to 57th spot to complete the top five ranked Asian sides.
