Al Seeb win to finish top in Credit Oman Cup prelims

Al Seeb beat Al Bashayer to claim the top position in the overall standings for the preliminary round of the second Credit Oman Basketball Cup after a thrilling match at the sub-hall of the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher.


The two teams shared control over the match periods. Al Bashayer Club managed to maintain a slight lead in the first three quarters. While Al Seeb made a remarkable comeback in the fourth quarter, clinching the win by a mere two points and securing a final score of 60-58. The victory propelled Al Seeb to the top of the standings with 6 points, while Al Bashayer Club secured the second position with 5 points.


In the first quarter, Al Bashayer took an early attack, with Osama al Riyami being able to advance by two points after shooting from under the basket. Al Seeb responded by scoring two similar points through Hassan al Faraji. The pace remained intense as both teams exchanged attacks, with the first quarter ending in a close score of 12-13 in favour of Al Bashayer.


The second quarter saw the performance change in favour of Al Bashayer Club, they showcased a strong offensive and defensive performance. Their players took turns scoring, as the team added 16 points. Meanwhile, Al Seeb faced challenges in their attacking line, resulting in fewer points on the board. The first half ended with Al Bashayer leading 29-21.


In the third quarter, parity returned between the two teams. Al Seeb took the initiative to score two points through Rasheed al Zuhaibi. This was followed by a shot from Ayman al Mahrami, who added two more points to reduce the gap. Al Bashayer responded quickly by scoring four points from two shots by Osama al Riyami and Ahmed al Jahwari.


Al Bashayer Club added 14 points and Al Seeb had 16 points in reply. However, Al Bashayer kept their lead ahead of Al Seeb with a score of 50-41.


In the fourth quarter, Al Seeb showcased exceptional performance in both attack and defence, staging a strong comeback. Their defence was strong, thwarting many of Al Bashayer attempts. Additionally, Al Seeb were able to add 19 points and Al Bashayer were limited to only 8 points, wasting the opportunity to win. Al Seeb clinched the victory with a final score of 60-58.


The match was officiated by international referee Issam al Siyabi as the first referee, international Mansour al Bahri as the second referee, and Ali al Sulaimani as the third referee. Wafa al Samriyah, Yaqoub al Nadabi and Majid al Akhzami managed the proceedings at the table.
