The Oman Cancer Association (OCA) will observe October as Global Pink Ribbon Month, dedicated to raising awareness about breast cancer throughout Oman. In the 19th year of important cancer awareness initiative, the theme for this year's campaign is 'Every Step Counts.' Annual walkathon to mark the occasion will be held on November 3, at Qurum Park and will be a whole day affair. The event will span from 10 am to 6.30 pm and promises a wide array of entertaining activities and a family-friendly food court to make it an enjoyable day out for all.

Throughout October 2023, the OCA's breast cancer awareness campaign will encompass a comprehensive approach involving schools, colleges, businesses, and the wider community through various activities set in community spaces and malls.

The campaign will feature a range of activities and programmes, including educational sessions on breast cancer awareness and the deployment of the Mobile Mammography Unit to provide free mammography services for women aged 40 and above at select malls.

There will be free clinical breast examinations and daily programmes to educate young women on self-breast examination as part of the screening for breast cancer. It is noteworthy that breast cancer continues to be a significant concern in Oman, affecting women under 40, highlighting the necessity of educational programmes in educational institutions and workplaces.

A key highlight of the Pink Ribbon Breast Cancer Awareness month is the annual walkathon, which marks the culmination of the awareness efforts. Last year, the Oman Cancer Association successfully organised the 18th Annual Walkathon, with nearly 8,000 participants congregating at Qurum Park.

The OCA has thoughtfully planned activities catering to both children and adults.

The walkathon will kick off at 4.30 pm and last until 6.30 pm, covering a route of approximately 1.5 km. To make a visible impact, all participants will receive high-quality T-shirts free of charge during registration.

The primary objectives of the walkathon are to extend support to cancer patients, survivors, and their families, demonstrating that the community deeply cares for them. It also aims to raise awareness and advocacy within the community, educate children about cancer, and generate funds to support the OCA's vital work.

Registration will be available at various locations every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at City Centre Muscat, Al Araimi Boulevard, Oman Avenues Mall, and Mall of Oman, and from Sunday to Thursday at the OCA headquarters to facilitate participation.
