Oasis Badminton Academy opened in Muscat

Centre strengthens ORSC in boosting sport in Oman, says Dr Abdul Rahim

MUSCAT: The Oasis Badminton Academy was inaugurated in Muscat as an international standard badminton hub offering top-class facilities in the Sultanate of Oman. The inauguration ceremony took place on Friday under the auspices of Dr Abdul Rahim bin Musallam al Darwashi, Chairman of Oman Racket Sports Committee (ORSC), in presence of Yogendra Singh Katiyar, founder of the academy, and dignitaries.


Upon the arrival of the chief guest, the opening ribbon was cut to make the grand opening of the academy. Later on, the chairman of ORSC and founder of the academy played an exhibition game before all the attendees went on a tour inside the academy to unveil the provided facilities and the future plans and programmes of the academy. Moreover, the opening ceremony invitees attended some matches between the ranked players including local player Ahmed al Barwani.


The academy comprised six avant-garde badminton courts with top-tier amenities. The academy also featured a professional shop which offered a treasure trove of badminton essentials and attire. The academy offered a range of different courses and lessons including Badminton Mastery namely the lessons catering to all levels and spanning from novices to experts. Personalised Training unlocks the potential with private sessions. Group Dynamics thrives through collective learning in group lessons.


Tournament Excellence will elevate the game with dedicated tournament training. It targets all-age players including individuals across age spectrums and skill tiers.


TOP COACHES


The Oasis Badminton Academy is set up with a personal prowess from expert and qualified mentors namely coach Balasubramannian NG from India who is a highly accomplished badminton player with a quarterfinal position in the Tata Open Challenge men's doubles category and multiple semifinalist with titles in All India Ranking Tournaments. Coach Ari Taufik from Indonesia is a true badminton virtuoso with an illustrious journey. Boasting over 40 titles triumphed in the Indonesia Junior Circuit and a remarkable runner-up at the UITM International Malaysia. Coach Favian Robben, hailing from Indonesia, is a seasoned stalwart in the realm of badminton, who seamlessly amalgamates skill enhancement and inspiration into each player's odyssey.


Dr Abdul Rahim bin Musallam al Darwashi, Chairman of ORSC, said that the opening of such a distinguished sports facility is considered a strong support for the sport of badminton. “Special thanks to the management of Oasis Badminton Academy for their top efforts in bringing this academy into reality. The arena promises to deliver an exceptional playing experience for both amateur enthusiasts and professional athletes alike. The academy will strengthen our orientations in the coming period by investing in all available opportunities to transform this sport into an industry. Also, exploiting all available means to spread badminton in the Sultanate of Oman and providing greater opportunities for young players to experience the sport and continue in it until advanced stages,” he added.


The chief of ORSC affirmed that the committee will provide its support for this project and all similar projects that have many positive aspects which will contribute to the development of sports in the country.


Oman Racket Sports Committee was formed in July by an official decision from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth. The committee will supervise the sports of squash and badminton.
