Symposium highlighting Izki’s history, culture

IZKI: The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth organised a symposium titled 'Izki Throughout History' as part of the discussions on Omani cities held by the Literary Forum. It continued for two days, on Monday and Tuesday, in the Izki Public Hall.


The Literary Forum represented the symposium organised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth. It was held in cooperation with the Izki Governor's Office, the Izki Cultural Center, and the Izki Club over two consecutive days.


This series of symposiums on Omani cities is held by the Literary Forum - through which researchers study the state's geography, history, and famous people, highlighting the features of the renewed Omani Renaissance and cultural topics. It aims to underline and introduce identity to the local and external community.


The symposium was held under the auspices of Dr Mohammed bin Said al Maamari, Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs.


The Izki Throughout History Symposium came due to its natural, historical, cultural, and human components. It combines plain, mountainous, ancient archaeological sites. It is full of literary and scientific talents that have gained fame internally and externally.


Khamis bin Rashid al Adawi, Civilizational Studies Advisor, gave the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth speech. He talked about the importance of such symposiums in general and the importance of Izki in particular.


Sheikh Sultan bin Hilal al Alawi, Wali of Izki and chairman of the Main Committee of the Symposium, also gave a speech reviewing the great efforts made in preparing for the Izki throughout history Symposium.


During the ceremony, a visual presentation was presented about Izki's importance, historical status, ancient and modern names, the most important villages, archaeological and historical monuments, and its most prominent scholars, writers, and leaders throughout the ages. And the achieved development projects.

Poet Hesham bin Nasser al Saqri presented a poem about the wilayat of Izki, its importance, its ancient history, and its achievements during the modern era. Younis bin Ali Al Manthri, a member of the Shura Council representative of Izki, presented highlights from Izki, in which he reviewed the importance of Izki in the past and the present, talking about its location, its ancient history, its most influential scholars and writers, its antiquities and Aflaj, and other aspects related to Izki.


On the first day, the symposium included six working papers distributed over two sessions, presented by several contemporary researchers on Izki's history. The first session included three working papers moderated by Dr Ahmed bin Abdullah al Azizi, where the first paper was presented by researcher Badriyah bint Hamoud al Amri, entitled (Geography of Izki. The Fragrance of the Place), and the second paper, entitled (Izki in Ancient Times), was presented by Dr Na'el Hanoun Aliwi. The third working paper is entitled (Izki Historical and Political Status) presented by Dr Ismail bin Saleh al Aghbari.


Dr Majid bin Salim al Ruqaishi moderated the second session, which included three working papers. The first, entitled (Izki in the period from 1624 AD to 1749 AD) was presented by Dr Ahmed bin Humaid al Tubi, while Dr Mohammad bin Hamad al Shuaili presented the second working paper entitled (Izki in British sources). The third working paper, presented by Dr. Salim bin Hamad al Nabhani, was entitled (The Political Conditions in Izki in the Period from 1920 AD to 1960 AD).


On the symposium's second day, the third session was held, moderated by Youssef bin Yasser al Azri. Researcher Rahma bint Saif al Azri presented the first working paper, entitled 'Advantages of Izki in Achieving Vision in 2040 AD', while Dr Hamid bin Saif al Nawfali represented the second working paper, entitled 'Economic Conditions of Izki Throughout History'. Dr Masoud bin Said al Hadrami presented the third working paper, entitled (Tourist Attractions and Historical Monuments in Izki).


The symposium papers concluded with the fourth session, which Bader bin Saad al Amiri moderated. Dr. Youssef bin Ibrahim al Sarhani presented the first working paper, entitled (The Izkawi School, History and Message). Dr Zahir bin Marhoon al Daoudi presented the second working paper, entitled (The Cultural Heritage in the State of Izki). In contrast, the third working paper was entitled ( Scientific and Literary Life) presented by researcher Sheikh Said bin Nasser al Naabi.


An accompanying exhibition was held during the symposium, including ancient documents and manuscripts about Izki, with the participation of several institutions and individuals.
