SALALAH: The Ministry of Labour (MoL), in partnership with the Reference Centre for Conferences and Seminar, organised a well-attended forum focused on strategic project management, with a specific emphasis on advancing the principles of good governance. The opening was held under the auspices of Shaikh Salem bin Mustahil al Maashani, Adviser to the Diwan of the Royal Court.

In his opening address, Dr Mohammed al Najjar, Director-General of Training at the Ministry of Labour, said, "Project governance comprises an encompassing framework of management systems, rules, protocols, relationships and structures that meticulously guide decision-making processes and skillfully steer projects towards their intended goals and strategic objectives."

Al Najjar stressed that the core purpose of project governance is to empower employees with professional expertise, equipping them with the necessary practical skills, knowledge, and hands-on experience to effectively execute their assigned responsibilities.

Modern organisations are intricate entities, featuring numerous departments and divisions, each tasked with distinct responsibilities and objectives. These entities often collaborate and, at times, possess overlapping duties in their collective pursuit of an organisation's overarching goals. The term "good governance" steps in as an essential catalyst, harmonising and synchronising the roles of these diverse departments, thereby bridging any gaps that may arise between them.

This terminology has gained prominence in response to the significant evolution witnessed in contemporary institutional dynamics, underscoring the vital role of leadership in steering organisations towards resounding success.

The two-day forum seeks to foster cooperation and enhance communication among the diverse spectrum of strategic projects operating within the domain of governance. It aims to offer valuable insights into the latest advancements in governance mechanisms and tools pertinent to strategic projects. Additionally, it aims to identify key challenges that often hinder the effective management of strategic projects within the framework of governance, proposing practical and viable solutions to surmount these obstacles.

Furthermore, it draws inspiration from the experiences of developed nations in the field of governance. All these endeavours are meticulously designed to enhance the governance mechanisms of strategic projects, elevating their performance to seamlessly align with the ambitious objectives set forth in Oman Vision 2040.

The forum attracted a diverse cadre of experts, researchers and stakeholders, both hailing from within and beyond the borders of the Sultanate of Oman. Also in attendance are current and aspiring leaders within the government sector, and corporate auditors and legal advisers serving within government entities and projects.
