MUSCAT: Publicly traded electricity generation firm SMN Power Holding SAOG has announced its intention to sell Gas Turbines 1 to 6 at the plant of its 99.99 per cent subsidiary Al Rusail Power Company SAOC.

According to a filing by the company to the Muscat Stock Exchange (MSX) on Monday, Gas Turbines 1 to 6 were installed in four phases between 1984 and 2000. They have a total capacity of 480 megawatts (MW). The turbines were retired in September 2021 and are no longer in operation.

Gas Turbines 7 and 8, of a total capacity of 480 MW, were also installed in four phases between 1984 and 2000. These turbines are still in operation under the existing Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Nama Power and Water Procurement (NamaPWP). The PPA is valid until December 31, 2023. If the PPA is extended beyond December 31, 2023, Gas Turbines 7 and 8 will continue to be in operation, the company noted in its filing.
