Over 15,000 tourists visit Al Batinah South forts

AL RUSTAQ: The forts and castles of Al Batinah South Governorate drew 15,935 tourists in the first half of this year.


Dr Al Mutasim bin Nasser al Hilali, Director, Directorate of Heritage and Tourism in Al Batinah South Governorate, explained that the governorate boasts 11 castles and 46 forts, adding that the restoration of Nakhl Forts was completed while the restoration work at Rustaq Fort is under way.


Al Hilali added that during the previous period, the restoration and renovation of Al Hazm Fort was completed and is awaiting private investment, the restoration of Barka Fort and Al Mansour Fort was completed as the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism endeavours to develop and rehabilitate historical monuments across the Sultanate of Oman.


The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism is striving to restore the historical monuments which will be managed and operated by small and medium enterprises and companies specialised in managing castles and forts. This, he said, will contribute to generating job opportunities for nationals, the official concluded. — ONA
