Muscat: The Environment Authority has launched workshops on sectoral plans for carbon neutrality. Organized by the National Net-Zero Programme in Muscat, the workshops seek to follow up and implement the national strategy for an orderly transition to carbon neutrality. They constitute an effort to reach a unified implementation plan, while at the same time adding a number of projects to achieve the interim goals based on the motives.

During the first week (September 3-5, 2023), the workshops discuss the electricity sector’s targets to reach zero carbon emissions, the initiatives and projects implemented in the sector, major challenges and the capabilities required to address them.

Oman was among the earliest countries that announced a strategic approach to achieve zero carbon emissions by 2050, following the directives of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik in October 2022.

Accordingly, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change placed Oman in the list of countries that endorsed a national strategy for carbon neutrality.
