MUSCAT: Qurum Stars beat home team MIS Fighters in the final of the DS Sports — 7th edition of the Muscat Open Cricket League. This 7-month long tournament is one of the top-contested tennex ball cricket tournaments in Oman and was contested between as many as 28 teams.
MIS Fighters stormed into the final with their dominating game play throughout the tournament and were expected to win the final which was being hosted at their wonderful new cricket facility constructed in Misfah. Although, they were to face the spirited rivals Qurum Stars, that are known for their strategical superiority. The match attracted crowds in large numbers and they were certainly not disappointed with the quality of cricket displayed by both the teams.
Winning the toss, Qurum stars opted to bat first and put the runs on the board in the high-pressure finale. Despite losing early wickets, Qurum Stars were able to post a competitive 169 in their allocated 16 overs, thanks to an extremely late counter-attack by number nine batter Avinash, who smashed a quick-fire 61 runs in just 23 deliveries. Danial Younis was the pick of the bowler for MIS fighters with figures of 4-40.
Chasing 170 for the championship, MIS Fighters got off to a brilliant start and were well placed at 93/3 in 6.3 overs, just when they lost 4 wickets while adding 3 runs. Requiring just above run a ball, MIS Fighters were just expected to play out the remaining overs, although it wasn’t the case and they were bundled out for just 123 runs in 11.2 overs, losing the encounter by 46 runs.
There were numerous achievers at the presentation ceremony which included – Shaheen XI (3rd place), Friendly Stars (4th place), Awais – Sky XI (man of the series), Tahir – Mawaleh Warriors (best batsman), Ishtiaq A – MIS Fighters (best bowler), M Asif – MIS Fighters (best fielder), Awais – SKY XI (most sixes), Awais – Friendly Stars (consolation - man of the series), Fazal Khan – Shaheen Xi (cons - best bowler), Kirit – Qurum Stars (best performer), Ishtiaq H – MIS Fighters (best performer) and Avinash – Qurum Stars (man of the match in final).
The event was organised and managed by Dipak Sports and telecasted live on plenty of social media platform, which accumulated thousands of views from around the world. The presentation ceremony was conducted by Pranav Mehta, in the presence of the committee members of MOCL, MIS Management, Management Committee and sponsors. MOCL has been supporting and promoting the organised growth of cricket in Oman for the last many years, and this was another successful effort.
