MUSCAT: The National Employment Program (NEP) held a workshop in cooperation with government agencies and the private sector to develop an Omanisation strategy for the logistics sector. The workshop aims to enhance Omanisation opportunities in the sector, develop a competency framework for specialized professions, and study challenges facing the sector.

In his opening speech, Engineer Azhar bin Ahmed al Kindi, Technical Director of the NEP, said that the workshop is part of an initiative by the NEP to implement a project to develop and prepare a competency framework for logistics professions in the sector. The project is being implemented by WPS Corporation and Investment Company, and will focus on the most important jobs and professions related to the sector.

Al Kindi said that the project is one of the most important national projects that will contribute to linking education and training institutions with the labour market. It will also help to provide the sector with the national workforce it needs.

During the workshop, participants discussed the proposed Omanisation strategy for the logistics sector. The strategy includes three stages: (i) Data analysis: This stage will involve collecting data on the current state of Omanisation in the sector, as well as the skills and competencies required for the various jobs; (ii) Gap analysis: This stage will identify the gaps between the current state of Omanisation and the desired state; and (iii) Action plan: This stage will develop a plan to close the gaps and achieve the desired state of Omanisation.

The workshop also discussed the challenges facing the logistics sector, such as the lack of skilled workers and the high cost of labour. Participants discussed ways to overcome these challenges, such as developing training programs and providing financial incentives to employers.

The workshop concluded with a call for action to implement the Omanisation strategy and to develop the logistics sector.

The NEP is committed to working with all stakeholders to achieve the goals of the Omanisation strategy and to develop the logistics sector. The NEP believes that the logistics sector has the potential to create jobs and contribute to the economic development of the Sultanate of Oman.
