

SALALAH: The Salalah Free Zone, affiliated to Asyad Group, has attracted new project investments totalling RO 727 million during the first half of 2023.
Five usufruct agreements were signed so far this year, taking the number of projects to 127 to date, with a cumulative investment volume of RO 4.5 billion.
Dr. Ali bin Mohammed Tabuk (pictured), CEO of Salalah Free Zone Company, said in a statement to the Oman News Agency (ONA), “The new agreements in the first half of this year include the project to establish a powder and detergent production plant, another for the manufacture of ferrous alloys and packaging paper, as well as a textile manufacturing and plastic packaging plant for health care, as well as a urea and ammonia production project, and an Exahertz project in the field of data hosting and processing.”
He stressed the interest of the Salalah Free Zone in attracting private investment in the technical sector and the digital economy; Through the opening of a data hosting and crypto mining project in mid-August for Exahertz Global, the construction of the Blockchain Data Center is an important milestone indicating the success of the Free Zone by attracting domestic and international investment and strengthening the technical sector in the Sultanate of Oman.
He explained that the Salalah Free Zone supports its modern facilities and logistics potential investments in the third-generation Internet technology sector and 4th Industrial Revolution technologies, to serve as a pillar and starting point for expanding computing capabilities in the Sultanate of Oman for blockchain technology.
This will open up new horizons for innovation and the growth of Oman's digital economy, leveraging its strategic position alongside submarine cable landings in Salalah.
The free zone also provides a highly efficient energy grid suited to the needs of large-scale technical projects, as well as taking advantage of the moderate climate in Dhofar Governorate, and the possibility of using cold sea water in sophisticated cooling systems, which contributes to reducing energy consumption and enhancing the efficiency of air conditioning and ventilation systems that are key to ensuring the safety of devices in big data centers.
The Salalah Free Zone is a leading hub for high-quality industrial and logistics activities. It offers many economic incentives, benefits and facilities to investors, most notably tax exemptions, full foreign ownership of investment projects, as well as a strategic location adjacent to the Port of Salalah bordering the trajectory of the world's most prominent navigation lines, which has the infrastructure and equipment to place among the world's elite commercial ports. — ONA
