Al Dakhiliyah ready to receive students for the new academic year

NIZWA: The Directorate-General of Education in the Governorate of Al Dakhiliyah has completed its preparations to receive 111,198 students (57,562 males and 53,636 females) in 169 schools for the new academic year 2023/2024.


It implemented several modern development plans and programmes to achieve the goals of the educational system.


New school buildings


During the new academic year, the governorate will have two new school buildings: Shaikh Shames bin Hassan Al Amri School for Basic Education for Boys (10-12) in Izki, and Al Shatha’a Bint Jaber School for Basic Education (9-12) in Nizwa. In addition, 15 schools will operate on the evening shift, of which seven schools are new.


Administrative and teaching staff


The total administrative and teaching cadres in the governorate's schools reached 9,778 employees of which 6,769 are female and 3,009 are males. The Department of Administrative Affairs completed the transfer of 253 teachers of which 235 are females and 18 are males. It also completed posting of 1,310 newly appointed teachers (136 males and 1,174 females).


The training centre, in cooperation with the Educational Supervision Department of the Directorate, will conduct an induction meeting for new teachers. It will also implement a rehabilitation programme for two days. The Educational Supervision Department has likewise drawn up a plan for science and mathematics series training. The directorate will also continue to receive the 10th batch of teachers at the Specialised Institute.



Innovation and programming


The Directorate pays extensive attention on talented students in innovation and programming. It provides technical support and implements a special programme to develop their skills and innovations. It continues to organise meetings with all schools and notify them of competitions in innovation and science Olympiad. It also monitors the progress and readiness of schools implementing the STEM project (5 schools), the GLOBE project (4 schools), and the Future Engineers project (10 schools). It ensures their implementation of programme protocols and readiness to participate in competitions related to each programme.


Special education and continuous learning


The Department of Special Education and Continuing Education in the Directorate is also working to monitor the functioning of the educational system in the schools of special education and continuing education. Applications for registration in literacy classes have been approved in each wilayat following the requirements set by the Ministry of Education. This is part of the continuous learning system. It has also been confirmed that the classrooms are ready to receive integration students from special education schools, and to prepare cadres to work with them.


Science and Technology Centre in Nizwa


The Directorate, represented by the Science and Technology Centre, is keen to keep pace with generative artificial intelligence applications, robotics, renewable energy, nanotechnology, interactive learning and cybersecurity.


The centre also supports student innovations in local and international competitions by presenting working papers in conferences or attending workshops.


Ibn Al Nather Centre for Science and Innovation


As part of the preparations, the Governorate of Al Dakhiliyah's education department will begin work at the Ibn Al Nather Centre for Science and Innovation in the Wilayat of Samayil. The centre was set up with a cost of RO 86,645. It is expected that more than 25,000 students will benefit from it.
