Muscat: The 12th edition of the Omani Song Festival will kick off in December.

The event is organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth. Making a comeback after a 7-year suspension, the festival seeks to attract talented singers, nurture their skills and motivate them to portray their artistic potential as they communicate with the masses, wherever they might be.

Through its nonconventional re-emergence, the festival also aims to consolidate partnerships between various government departments and private sector establishments in their mission to enrich cultural and artistic domains.

It is worth noting that the first edition of the Omani Song Festival was launched in December 1994. In that edition, Ahmed al Harthy won the Golden Bulbul (nightingale) Award.

Previously, the three-day song festival was organized by the then Ministry of Heritage and Culture as per the directives of the Late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said.

It was aimed at engendering awareness and promoting the sultanate’s rich musical and cultural heritage in the region and beyond.

This festival showcases Oman’s unique heritage and culture through the arts—music, song, and poetry.

Singers will compete live on television and in front of an audience during the festival.

The objective of the festival is to motivate Omani musicians, singers, and upcoming stars by encouraging healthy competition to help spread awareness for the Omani song in the region and outside.
