Oman sees 8% jump in divorce cases

Muscat: The number of divorce cases in the Sultanate of Oman increased by 8 percent to 4,160 in 2022 compared to 3,837 in 2021 and 3,426 in 2020, according to a report by the National Center for Statistics and Information (NCSI).


At the same time, the total number of marriages registered was 15,400, which saw a drop from 19, 294 in 2021 and 18,621 in 2020.


Muscat Governorate topped the list among the governorates with 977 cases followed by Dhofar (786), North al Batinah (666), and South al Batinah (476).


The highest number of divorce cases according to nationality was 3,682 divorce cases between an Omani man and an Omani woman, while the lowest number was 182 between an expatriate man and a woman, while the number of divorce cases between an Omani man and a woman reached 208.


The total number of marriages registered in 2022 in the capital was 3,162.
