MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman’s representative, Seeb club, will begin their campaign in the preliminary round of the 2023-24 AFC Champions League on Tuesday as they will meet Uzbekistan’s Agmk FC at the Almalyk stadium. The match will begin at 7 pm (Oman time).
Seeb players, coached by newly appointed coach Jorvan Vieira of Brazil, will chase a ticket into the next stage of the Asia’s most prestigious club competition as the winner of the match will meet Qatar’s Al Arabi on August 22 in the play-off. With just two wins against Uzbekistan’s Agmk FC and then Qatar’s Al Arabi, Seeb will secure one of the six slots from the West side ahead of the main draw of the competition.
The 2022 AFC Cup champion will enter today’s fixture to register a win against a resilient Agmk FC. Seeb players shaped for this crucial game through an internal camp in Muscat and series of friendly matches against Olympic national team (finished with victory for Seeb 3-1) and local clubs including Oman Club (Seeb won 3-1) and Al Wahda club (3-0 for Seeb). The coaching staff focused during the latest training sessions on different technical and tactical sides that raised the players harmony ahead of the Asian clash.
Seeb players will work hard to end today’s key match on a winning note. The team managed to enter Oman’s clubs in the history as they won a continental competition after defeating Kuala Lumpur City FC 3-0 in the final and go into the AFC Champions League preliminary round hoping to be the first-ever side from the Sultanate of Oman to reach the group stage. The recently appointed head coach Jorvan Vieira will have many key players in this game as he will depend on Mohsin al Ghassani, top scorer in the AFC Cup 2022, Eid al Farsi, who won the MVP award, Zahir al Aghbari, Abdulaziz al Maqbali and Yazeed al Maashani among others.
The opponents AGMK club progressed into this round of the competition as 2022 Uzbekistan Super League fourth-placed team. They are well known team in Uzbekistan as they have finished in the top four for three consecutive seasons and won the Uzbek final in 2018. They made their attendance in AFC Champions League as they had played against Al Hilal, Shabab Al Ahli and Istiklol.
