A cybersecurity forum that opened in Salalah on yesterday, has highlighted the potential for the industry to help the Sultanate of Oman diversify its economy and attract investment.

The forum, which was organized by the Arab Regional Center for Cybersecurity of the International Telecommunication Union, brought together stakeholders from the public, private, and academic sectors to discuss the latest trends and challenges in the field of cybersecurity.

Speakers at the forum stressed that cybersecurity is essential for protecting critical infrastructure, safeguarding financial systems, and preventing cybercrime. They also noted that the demand for cybersecurity solutions is growing rapidly, and that there is a shortage of skilled cybersecurity professionals in the region.

Lois Chang, Chief Security Officer for Huawei Middle East and Central Asia, told Oman Observer that the forum was an excellent opportunity to share insights and collaborate on ways to advance cybersecurity in Oman.

"Our aim is to utilize emerging technologies like cloud, metaverse, and AI to benefit Oman's economy," Chang said. "We want these technologies to translate into practical solutions that enhance our nation's prosperity." Chang added that Huawei is committed to working with the Omani government and other stakeholders to enhance cybersecurity capacity building and innovation in the country.

"We believe that cybersecurity is a key enabler for economic diversification and investment opportunities in Oman," Chang said.
