Al Jabal Al Akhdhar: The Al Jabal Al Akhdhar Festival 2023 is drawing significant attention, having welcomed over 24,000 visitors since its commencement on August 3. The festival, hosted by Al Dakhiliyah Governorate in collaboration with the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, is set to run until August 19. The festival's inauguration was held under the auspices of Salim bin Mohammed al Mahrouqi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism. It is featuring diverse events, including performances by the Royal Guard of Oman's music and the Dark Thoughts show.

The festival spans two main locations: The primary site adjacent to Hail Yemen Park and another at Saih Qatnah. Highlights encompass the Bait al Rudaida exhibition at Birkat al Mouz's Bait al Rudaida Castle, displays of productive families and small-to-medium enterprises, and engaging corners tailored for various interests, including youth and children. An emphasis on Omani cuisine and the presentation of Al Jabal Al Akhdhar farmers' products further enrich the experience.

Beyond entertainment, the festival offers paragliding demonstrations, theatrical presentations, adventure sports races, and historical exploration. The festival goers have the chance to delve into Al Jabal Al Akhdhar's history by visiting the historical village of Al Sujarah, partaking in the Ain al Sujara experience, and enjoying stargazing activities.

Engineer Mohammad bin Ali al Wardi, Director of the Municipality Department of Al Jabal Al Akhdhar, sees the festival as a means for visitors to acquaint themselves with the area's natural beauty and local products, while simultaneously generating temporary employment opportunities.

Ahmed bin Salim al Toubi, Director General of Administrative and Financial Affairs at the Governor of Al Dakhiliyah, praised the festival's broad appeal and its contribution to the economic and tourism development of the region. This aligns with a broader strategy to position Al Jabal Al Akhdhar as a premier year-round tourist destination, capitalising on its unique heritage and weather conditions.

In tandem with the festival, a mountain bike race was organised by the Governorate of Al Dakhiliyah in partnership with the Omani Cycling Federation. This event aims to promote mountain biking within Oman's diverse terrains and cultural elements, fostering competition, skill refinement, talent discovery, and cycling awareness. The event featured categories for different age groups and genders and prioritised safety measures.

Furthermore, a mountain tourism trail was arranged in collaboration with the Al Sumoud Adventures Team, spotlighting key tourist attractions across several villages. This initiative not only fosters physical fitness but also promotes local heritage, encouraging participants to explore the region's rich history.

The Al Jabal Al Akhdhar Festival effectively combines entertainment, tourism, sports, and cultural activities to bolster the appeal of Al Jabal Al Akhdhar. It engages small businesses and the local community, enhancing the region's historical and tourist allure.
