The tide of tourists streaming into khareef-bound Dhofar is having a knock-on effect on the wider economy in the governorate.

As disclosed by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) recently, the visitor count has surged by 12.8 per cent compared to the same period last year, and the economic pulse has peaked in July, with 95 per cent of the total visitors arriving during this month.

The diverse mix of tourists has contributed to this economic resurgence, with Omani visitors leading the charge with a remarkable 13 per cent increase. Further bolstering the positive impact is the commendable 10 per cent rise in tourists from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations and an even more robust 20 per cent surge in visitors from various other nationalities.

The visitor surge has spurred a dynamic economic ecosystem within Dhofar Governorate. The local markets have thrived on the heightened consumer activity, presenting a thriving scenario.

Importantly, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion has assured the local business community and the general publication of the abundant availability of essential consumer goods and food commodities. Also overseeing this effort is the Consumer Protection Authority in Dhofar Governorate.

Khareef activities and events have also set off a chain reaction of increased expenditures across various segments. Driving the upturn in festival related activities are multiple government ministries and departments working in collaboration.

The Omani government’s unwavering commitment to Dhofar’s economic development is visible through its ongoing investments in infrastructure, tourism, and various sectors. These forward-looking initiatives are aimed at augmenting the region’s allure for both visitors and investors.
