Salalah: The Khareef Dhofar season stands tall as a beacon of Oman's tourism industry, beckoning visitors from near and far. A key draw of this season lies in the tapestry of diverse events woven across the picturesque Dhofar Governorate, proving instrumental in alleviating traffic congestion and igniting a tourism surge.


Historically, the majority of events clustered in the vibrant city of Salalah, casting a shadow of traffic woes and logistical snags. However, in recent times, visionary event organisers have charted a new course, scattering festivities across enchanting locations such as Iteen, Al Hafa, Awqad, Al Mughsail and Wadi Darbat.


The strategic dispersion of events has reaped manifold rewards, not only mitigating traffic congestion within Salalah's bustling thoroughfares but also catalysing tourism in lesser-known regions of the governorate. An illustrative testament is the resounding success of the "Return of the Past" festival in 2023, held in Al Hafa. The festival's resplendent showcase of Omani heritage proved a magnet, drawing hordes of visitors and propelling a resurgent local economy.


The multifarious benefits of this event diversification are unmistakable - from unclogging traffic arteries to bolstering tourism prospects while proudly unveiling Oman's rich cultural tapestry to the world.



Foreseeing a radiant future, this trend of expansive event venues is poised to persist in the years ahead, the aim being to amplify the allure and allure of the Dhofar Khareef season for discerning visitors.


In a testament to its growing prominence, this year's projected visitors to the Dhofar Governorate is set to swell to a staggering 1.1 million, accompanied by a projected spending spree, tipping the scales at RO 116 million.


A remarkable 37 per cent leap from the previous year, this surge is supported by reliable data furnished by aviation authorities and airlines, attesting to an exponential 99 per cent surge in scheduled flights from the Gulf countries to Salalah, further buttressed by a substantial 40 per cent hike in domestic flights.


Dhofar's Khareef sojourn unfolds its alluring tapestry, promising an enchanting rendezvous with Omani heritage and a flourishing tourism tapestry for the ages.
